Rating Spinal Stenosis Surgery For Spinal Stenosis?

Surgery for Spinal Stenosis? - rating spinal stenosis

X-Ray said that my wife has the so-called spinal stenosis. Physical therapy has not helped much and now the surgery seems the only option. I was told that the success rate is at 70% and there are stories that do Horor to ask if it worth the risk. I would be glad if you share your experience or have someone in your family to go through surgery. Thanks

As a PT, have a specialist in the area of the spine, and the daughter of someone with advanced spinal stenosis, a lot to offer.

First, because the stenosis appears on a radiograph does not mean it is the source of their symptoms. Secondly, in a sort of two basic types of stenosis ... Barriers through the soft tissues and bones caused by blockages. Disabilities soft tissues are often reversible ... but I have that I for a moment. Since I had an X-Ray (not mentioned MRI) May involve some form of proof of disability bone. .... However, again, because there are simply not that they are the cause of the symptoms. Stenosis often appear on x-ray ... especially after the age of 50 years ... even those who have absolutely no back pain.

True stenosis Boney has a very predictable pattern. (Pain in the back and legs, a leg or two, but in general as well) to get up and leave, what happens when walking and relieved each time you are sitting or bending. Sitting is usually not a problem and is often the most profile position. Since the position of the spinal canal in such a maneuver. For these people, PT can not see a way to temporarily control the symptoms, but we are grateful. Advanced stenosis may result in loss of feeling and the importance of the position of the feet, loss of balance, etc. For these people, the result is a laminectomy usually open the possibility of surgery to the spinal canal. However, decompression of several often lead to a merger.

The symptoms are more variable than his wife? Are there times that you go without pain? Beding it backward or sideways, so it feels better? You always feel that your symptoms? If so, we must remember that this change is more variable. Without commenting on the medical data, a large group of patients whose symptoms can be fast with a very specific approach to the classification and treatment undone. I'm not sure what their wives http://www.mckenziemdt.org PT results, but if your PT is not a certified provider of multidisciplinary teams, I suggest you remove a piece, I saw many people who have learned have,Stenosis who actually complete relief of their symptoms within a few visits ... often when they "failed" "PT-traditional" heat, massage, ultrasound, and the "stabilization" exercises.

Well, my father was a real person stenosis type Boney ... I could all day without pain, but could not walk more than 50 meters ... complete inability to feel their feet, if you and a loss of balance. He underwent decompression of the spinal column ... several times. He managed to leg function and sense of balance, but still serious problems back ... but only when standing and walking. He has not for a merger ultimately decide, but because of their advanced stage of the disease have been merged into T-4-L-4 ... We have always pain ... Our goals are simple at the moment .. . to go into business without a walker or shopping cart ... only a few hundred yards unassisted. He is now 3 months after the operation and its capabilities better, but a long way to go. Of course, my father is somemost advanced stages of disease.

Ultimately, check first if their wives PT is certified in MDT. So you can have greater control over the presentation of the classification ... Presentation is really stenosis? Or is it an investment opportunity. Do not put all your eggs in one basket on the basis of radiography. There is still much to explore the possibilities. In my opinion, 50% of people who have a diagnosis of "shrinking", based on a radiograph has symptoms that are completely unrelated to X-rays and are often reversible preserved.

Good luck

You did not specify whether the stenosis is in the neck or back. And there is no mention of whether it is a merger or amalgamation to do. I know that the process is painful and went through therapy, but the amount of work done at home. The treatment may not go so far without the movements of your order. The program should include flexibility and strengthening Emphysis severe in the bearing. Stenosis can not be undone, but can be controlled by the constant movement. What is the weight of his wife. If you are overweight, then weight reduction will help significantly. Finally, if you meet the examination with the neurosurgeon as possible. You go with someone you feel comfortable and that makes much of this type of proceeding. Find out how the procedure is not a merger or sale. In the long run mergers do not always exercise that much emphasis on the vertebrae above and below the fusion. Before the procedure, to ensure that his wife is wonderfulThe process is likely to reduce its troop strength.

My father had surgery for stenosis of the 1st March. It is certainly better, but patience is required, not so much the recovery from the surgery, but it takes time for what I disappear as "remembers" pain. According to the surgeon of my father, what happens is that the nerves send pain signals to the brain and it takes its time to learn "that there really is no pain. Something like the nerves need to heal and the pain with which it is forgotten. The doctor said it would happen for 6 months, but for an older (80ish), which can easily 12 months.
Make sure a surgeon for a good question. We found a by our family doctor, whose father had carried out this operation by a particular physician. It's a pretty good reference for me, especially when the father was taken to a local surgeon from outside the state.
The surgery is worth the risk, in the absence of other health problems with the operation. The pain of spinal stenosis will not disappear with time.
